What's inside an XAPK, APKS or APKM file
All three are zip files that carry an app in pieces. Android's installer takes one APK at a time, so tapping the file or opening it like an APK fails.
XAPK
APKPure's format: a manifest.json, the base APK, split APKs for the CPU, screen and language, and for many games an OBB data file.
APKS
Made by SAI and Google's bundletool: base.apk plus split_*.apk files, installed together.
APKM
APKMirror's format: an info.json, base.apk and split_*.apk files, normally installed with the APKMirror Installer app.
Split APKs
The base APK alone usually crashes or won't install: the code for your CPU or the app's resources are in the splits. They have to go in together.
OBB data
Game assets kept outside the APK, in Android/obb on the device. Without them a game starts and then stops at a download or error screen.

Other ways to open an XAPK
They all need an Android device of your own to install onto.
An installer app
APKPure, SAI or the APKMirror Installer on an Android phone. Works, but the app then lives on your phone.
adb install-multiple
Unzip the bundle and install the APKs together over ADB, then push the OBB file by hand. Needs a phone or emulator and the Android SDK.
Renaming to .zip
Shows the files inside, but doesn't run anything. Installing only the base APK from it usually fails.
Good to know
- Up to 200 MB for the whole file. Big games whose XAPK is larger than that won't fit.
- Built for ARM, or with no native code. Bundles with only x86 splits won't run.
- No Google Play services on the device: apps that need Google sign-in, Maps or push notifications may not fully work. The check before the start says so.
- Android App Bundles (.aab) are a developer format and are not supported; export an .apks with bundletool instead.

XAPK files: FAQ
What is an XAPK file?
A zip that holds an Android app in parts: the base APK, split APKs and sometimes OBB game data, with a manifest.json that lists them. APKPure uses it for apps that Google Play delivers as split APKs.
How do I open an XAPK on a PC or Mac?
Drop it on the phone at the top of this page. It runs on a cloud Android device, so nothing is installed on Windows or macOS and you don't need an emulator.
Can I convert an XAPK to an APK?
Only if it holds a single APK. Most XAPKs have splits that the app needs, so the base APK alone won't work. Here no conversion is needed: the whole bundle is installed as it is.
Does OBB data work?
Yes. The OBB files in an XAPK are copied to the device with the app, where the game expects them.
Is it safe to open an XAPK from the internet?
Safer here than on your phone: the app runs on a cloud device of its own that is wiped when the session ends, and it never touches your own files or accounts.

Before you sign in it does not leave your computer: it is read on this page. After that it is uploaded only to start your own device and is deleted after an hour. See the privacy policy.
